Blood Moon

Capturing the Blood Moon Over Chiang Mai

Witnessing and photographing the blood moon in Chiang Mai has been one of the most memorable experiences of my time here. The moment the moon began to rise at around 7 p.m., glowing with a deep red hue, I felt both excitement and gratitude for the chance to capture such a rare scene.

On the evening of September 7, I spent nearly three hours in the yard outside my apartment, adjusting my equipment, waiting patiently, and shooting frame after frame. The night was quiet, the air was still, and every stage of the moon’s ascent brought new details and emotions into view. It was both challenging and rewarding — the kind of experience that reminds me why I love photography.

The following evening, September 8, I was invited by a friend to join him on Doi Suthep Mountain. Thanks to his invitation, I was able to experience an unforgettable view of the blood moon rising above the horizon, with the city lights of Chiang Mai shimmering below. The scene felt almost surreal, a perfect harmony of nature’s wonder and the life of the city. Standing there, I was reminded of how nature and human life can intertwine so beautifully in a single moment.

These two nights were more than just an opportunity to take photographs. They were a reminder of patience, of the beauty that reveals itself when we take the time to wait, and of the joy that comes when passion meets the perfect moment. The images I captured are not only records of the blood moon itself, but also reflections of the wonder and gratitude I felt while standing beneath that sky.
